Text Editor Privacy Policy
App name: Text Editor
Last updated: August 4, 2026
1. Summary
- Text Editor is a minimalist, offline text viewer and editor for Android.
- All files are stored locally on your device. The developer does not collect, view, transmit, or retain any of your files or personal information.
- The application does not use advertising, user accounts, analytics, or third-party tracking. It operates completely offline with no internet permission.
- Your files remain private and never leave your device.
2. What this app does
Text Editor lets you browse, read, and edit plain text (.txt) files on your Android device. It scans your device for text files, displays them in a clean list, and lets you open any file to read or edit it.
Additional features include:
- Quick Notes system for creating and managing note cards
- Link cleaning that removes tracking parameters from shared URLs
- Text extraction from shared content (links, emails, phone numbers)
- Reading mode with customizable themes and fonts
- Auto-save to prevent data loss
All operations happen entirely on your device.
3. What information we collect
3.1. Files you open and edit
When you use Text Editor, the app reads and writes text files that are already on your phone. These files are processed locally and are never sent anywhere.
3.2. Information stored on your phone (not sent anywhere)
The following is stored only on your device:
- Text files you open or create
- Quick Notes you create
- App settings (theme, font size, reading mode preferences)
- Search history (recent search terms, stored in local SQLite database)
None of this leaves your phone.
3.3. What we DO NOT collect
We want to be very clear about this:
- No account or sign-up
- No email, name, phone number, or address
- No payment or card information
- No location tracking
- No contacts
- No photos from your gallery
- No browsing history
- No device identifiers
- No usage statistics
- No crash reports
- No personal information is ever collected or transmitted. The only network connection is an automatic version check (see section 6).
4. Permissions and why we ask for them
| Permission | Why the app needs it |
|---|---|
| Storage / Files | To read and write .txt files on your device |
| System Alert Window (Overlay) | To show the floating share sheet when text is shared from another app |
| Internet | Only to check the latest app version via Firebase Remote Config (see section 6) so outdated versions can be blocked. Not used to send any personal data |
| Notifications | To show save status and file operations |
You can deny or revoke any of these permissions in Android settings at any time. If a permission is needed for core functionality, the app will tell you which one is missing.
5. How your files are protected
- All file operations happen locally on your device
- Files are accessed using standard Android file APIs
- Quick Notes are stored in the app’s private database
- Your screen lock (PIN, pattern, or fingerprint) provides additional device-level protection
6. The version check (how we block outdated app versions)
To keep everyone safe and make sure old versions of the app (which may have bugs or security issues) stop being used, the app occasionally connects to Firebase Remote Config to ask a very simple question: “Is my version still supported?”
- This check sends only anonymous technical details (your app version and the device type). No name, no account, no location, no files, no personal data.
- The answer the app gets back decides whether the app is allowed to keep running, or whether you must update to the newest version from the Play Store before you can use it again.
- If the phone is offline or the check fails, the app still opens normally using the last known answer — we never block you because of a network problem you did not cause.
- This check is provided by Google Firebase (owned by Google LLC). Google’s own privacy policy applies to that connection: https://policies.google.com/privacy
- The check has nothing to do with your files. Your files and personal data are never included in it.
7. The link cleaning feature
When you share text from another app to Text Editor, the app can clean tracking parameters from URLs (like utm_*, fbclid, gclid, etc.). This cleaning happens entirely on your device. No URLs or shared text are sent to any server.
The cleaned text is displayed to you and optionally saved to a local file. Nothing leaves your phone.
8. How long we keep your data
We keep your data as long as you keep it. There are no hidden automatic deletions, and we never delete anything in the background.
- Text files: kept until you delete them
- Quick Notes: kept until you delete them
- Settings: kept until you change or remove them
- Search history: stored locally until you clear app data
You can delete everything at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing its data.
9. Who we share your data with
No one. Your files and personal information are never shared, sold, or transferred to anyone — not to us, not to advertisers, not to any third party. The only outside connection the app makes is the anonymous version check in section 6, which is handled by Google Firebase.
10. Data transfers
Your files and personal data never leave your phone, so there are no international transfers, no cloud storage, and no servers anywhere in the world holding your data. The only thing that travels to the internet is the tiny anonymous version check from section 6.
11. Children’s privacy
This app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone — including children. The only internet use is the anonymous version check described in section 6.
12. Your rights and control
Because we hold no personal data, most of the usual privacy rights are automatic for you:
- See your data: your files and notes are in the app
- Delete your data: delete files in the app, or clear app data / uninstall to remove everything
- Access control: revoke any permission in your phone’s settings
You have the final say over everything stored on your device.
13. Security
We cannot see or reach your files, but we do our best to keep your data safe:
- Local storage only
- No data collection or transmission (except anonymous version check)
- Standard Android file APIs
No security is perfect. The most important protection is yours: keep your phone locked and don’t share it with untrusted parties.
14. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top. Because the app does not send your data anywhere, updates to this policy will be shown inside the app’s settings screen. Your continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
15. Contact
If you have any questions about this policy or the app, contact us at:

We will answer as quickly as possible, usually within 5 business days.
